Racing

Racing at HPYC
There is a full programme of club events for both IRC registered racing boats and locally handicapped cruisers. Club members also race in Haven Combined Clubs Series, EAORA and other East Coast regattas, as well as further afield in Cowes Week, Cork Week and RORC races, among many others.
The racing fleet has changed over time and we now have a fleet of more than 20 Squibs.
The programme includes four series: Spring, Autumn and Frostbite, a fun Wednesday evening Lightship series during the summer months, Boxing Day and even a New Year's day race.
We also host a number of regattas for members and visitors and have been the host club for a number of different national championships as we are lucky to race on the river and we can quickly get out to sea in Dovercourt Bay.
Why not come and join us? We're always delighted to welcome newcomers to the racing fleet, and will be pleased to offer any help and advice about preparing your boat, meeting the safety regulations, and so on.
Racing is not only great fun, and highly sociable, it also provides invaluable experience of boat handling, sail trimming, using the tide and every other aspect of seamanship which will pay dividends when you take your boat cruising.
For those that don't want to compete, you will be more than welcome to join the camaraderie in the race office, all help gratefully received.
